ESPN College Pick Em Week 6: Ride Georgia To Big Points Again!

I missed my eight point game this week in pick em thanks to a Minnesota meltdown. I only finished with 41 points because I also dropped my five pointer. Tru2PSU led our group with 54 points last week. I was in the middle of the pack, which dropped me down to fifth place with 225 points. Gamebreaker_boz took the top spot back with a 50 point week, giving him 239 on the season.

(1) Purdue over Minnesota:

The Gophers didn’t play all that well last week, even on defense. Purdue also struggled, but Michigan is a top ten team with someone other than Speight at quarterback, so I’ll give them a pass. Purdue should be able to take the Gophers at home. All they need to do is stop the run, which the Boilers have been pretty good at so far this year.

(2) Texas over Kansas State:

It’s hard to bet against Texas right now. That near win in L.A. has the confidence high on this team. Texas is young, but they have the athletes to expose Kansas State. And let’s face it: the Wildcat offense has been ineffective at best. The fact that this is in Austin swings this in favor of the Longhorns.

(3) Utah over Stanford:

Honestly, I haven’t been all that impressed with either team. That said, Utah has a more reliable defense, at least so far. Bryce Love may be able to give them some problems, and the Stanford offense has looked better without Chryst in the game. I’m a little nervous about this one despite what the rankings and record think.

(4) TCU over West Virginia:

TCU is certainly the most tested team. West Virginia had a close neutral field loss to a solid Virginia Tech team. TCU took down a top ten team in Oklahoma State. Of course, we know rankings mean practically nothing at this point. I still see this is a fairly tough game for TCU, but this is more a byproduct of the blowout potential of the other games this week compared to the relativity of TCU winning this game.

(5) Washington State over Oregon:

This has the possibility of a letdown game for the Cougars after a huge win over USC. Especially being on the road at Oregon. However, Oregon’s defense has had a lot of issues this year. Luke Falk seems determined to rewrite the entire Pac 12 passing record book. He will have no problem padding his stats against Oregon.

(6) Florida over LSU:

I still don’t have a ton of confidence in Florida, but LSU just lost to Troy at home. So much for Death Valley. This game is in the Swamp. The only question now is whether Ed Orgeron gets canned before Butch Jones.

(7) Miami over Florida State:

The Seminoles have looked better than Sparty, so I have them a notch lower. James Blackman has done pretty well learning on the fly, but I still don’t think Florida State’s offense is enough of a threat to pull this upset right now. Maybe in a month, but that’s not the way the schedule lined up. Miami is clearly the better team at this point.

(8) Michigan over Michigan State:

I am only a bit nervous because of the rivalry, but Michigan is clearly the better team on both sides of the ball, especially with John O’Korn under center. Speight ran this offense like a VW Beetle. O’Korn ran it like the Mustang it is. They aren’t an elite offense, but they are better than they looked with Speight under center. Now we finally get to see what Michigan is capable of.

(9) Wisconsin over Nebraska:

Wisconsin has the ability to win by 20 and make you feel like its 50. Nebraska’s strength has been run defense with the exception of the first half against Oregon. However, Northern Illinois exposed many weaknesses in both lines, and Wisconsin is strong enough on both lines to not only exploit that, but to completely shut Nebraska down because of it. Rutgers and Illinois weren’t strong enough to make Nebraska work for it, so I’m not sure they are actually that much improved. I think this gets ugly for Nebraska.

(10) Georgia over Vanderbilt:

I got ten on the Bulldogs again. Vanderbilt’s defense is good enough to make Georgia throw more than Tennessee, but I’m not sure that matters. With both Chubb and Michel in the backfield, Vandy will eventually wear down. Georgia wont embarrass Vandy like they did their counterparts in Knoxville, but I don’t see the game being all that close either.
