Sam Darnold

Quarterback, USC

The San Francisco 49ers have looked very bad on offense this season, and this is with an offensive guru as their head coach. The main problem is that they have Brian Hoyer as their quarterback, and as he has proven during his career, you are going to lose more than you win with him. He is a perfect backup, and the team may decide to keep him around next season, especially if they grab a top quarterback early in the first round

Despite the fact that he has turned the ball over way too many times this season, Sam Darnold is still considered the top quarterback in this draft class. It also appears that he is leaning towards coming out early, which would be a great thing for San Francisco if they are picking this early. Darnold has the arm to make all the throws at the next level and working with Kyle Shanahan, he could develop into something special.

If the Jets start playing the way they are supposed to, it could mean that they would be picking Darnold first overall. The 49ers defense has actually looked solid on occasion this season, and the NFC West has shown that it is a very winnable division in 2017. The 49ers might end up winning some games down the road that cause them to pick later in the first round, but they are certain to be picking in the top-5 in April.
