The college football recruiting landscape is forever changing and this is what happened in Week 5.

Another week of college football action has come and passed and what better way to spend the week leading up to the next slate of games than to review what happened in the recruiting world during Week 5.

There was much more action on the recruiting front in Week 5 and it’s likely because of the official visits taking place to each school. We are still months away from National Signing Day, but some 2018 recruits are getting the stress out of the way by committing early.

It was a good week for a few Power Five schools and one Group of Five program.

Michigan State gets hot on the recruiting trail

People have often criticized Mark Dantonio’s recruiting efforts. Those people are considered star-gazers who just look at whether a kid is a four or five-star prospect instead of waiting for the end result after a successful college career. Well, Dantonio silenced some critics last week by picking up three big 2018 commitments.

The first was three-star running back, and Detroit-native, Elijah Collins who is ranked the No. 612 recruit in the class. The next was four-star Georgia-native, and 6-foot-4, 345-pound tackle, James Ohonba. He took an official to MSU the previous weekend and fell in love. Lastly, Dantonio picked up a pledge from three-star offensive lineman Jacob Isaia, an Under Armour All-American and son of Spartan legend Bob Apisa. Good week for the green and white.

Mississippi State rebounds

After two tough losses over the past couple of weeks, Mississippi State rebounded with a commitment from four-star defensive end Jaden Crumedy. Although he held just a handful of offers, the 6-foot-5, 240-pound end from nearby Hattiesburg, Miss., is a talented recruit, ranked No. 224 in the country. Dan Mullen continues to impress on the recruiting trail.

Wisconsin bolsters defensive backfield

The Badgers have been known for their defense for years now and the addition of three-star cornerback Donte Burton should keep that tradition going. The Loganville, Ga., native is the No. 49 cornerback in the class and even though the Badgers don’t bring in many four-star prospects each year, they seem to excel at developing three-star talent. Could Burton be the next defensive star in Madison?

Tulsa lands a Judge

Although Tulsa isn’t exactly known for its recruiting prowess, the Golden Hurricane landed one of the top JUCO talents in the 2018 class, Judge Hartin. The four-star offensive guard is sure to help that potent offense. He ranked as the No. 52 JUCO player in the class and third-best guard.

Washington State lands mammoth tackle

Mike Leach landed a monster in Week 5. While the Cougars are gaining steam on the gridiron, Leach’s staff made a big splash — literally — by landing a 6-foot-9, 348-pound offensive tackle by the name of Nick Lewis. The Jacksonville, Fla., native chose the Cougars over about two dozen others and he’s ranked the No. 431 recruit in the class. Let’s hope the next quarterback after Luke Falk can see over this guy.
