Jose Altuve makes a statement and blasts three solo home runs against the Red Sox.

Jose Altuve may be short, but he certainly packs a punch. The 5-foot-6 second baseman welcomed Chris Sale to postseason baseball in Houston with a solo home run in the first inning when going back-to-back with Alex Bregman. However, Altuve wasn’t done there.

The Venezuelan took two more balls for a ride, bringing his total to three in the seventh inning. Altuve became just the ninth player in MLB history to hit three homers in a postseason game.

The All-Star second baseman has continued his hit parade into October. Altuve’s fire power and will to never quit is directly portrayed through the way the Astros play. He’s been with the team through 100-loss seasons and now looks to bring Houston its first World Series trophy. Altuve hit 24 home runs in the regular season and is continually boosting that total. In addition, Altuve had never hit a home run in the postseason before Thursday.

Altuve has now led the league in hits, claiming the batting title, for three-consecutive years. 2017 marks his fourth straight season with 200+ hits. Despite those amazing statistics, Altuve has never won an MVP award. But, the growing feeling around Houston is that his first will come in 2017.

Altuve has been one of the most underrated players in MLB throughout his career. Ultimately, he’s going to leave his mark on the league this postseason, more than he already has. Altuve is introducing himself to those who do not know about the short, star-powered second baseman for the Astros and he’s doing so in grand fashion. Altuve’s three home runs are just a part of the Astros’ hit-a-thon against Boston’s pitching staff in Game 1 of the ALDS.
