Game 2 of the ALDS was a fierce battle but the Indians managed to edge the Yankees 9-8 after 13 innings.

Game 2 of the ALDS between the New York Yankees and the Cleveland Indians was some darn good baseball. After New York jumped out to a big lead in the 3rd inning, the Indians answered back with a clutch grand slam that put them back in the game. In the end, the Indians pulled off the win 9-8 over the Yankees in 13 innings. Cleveland now leads the series 2-0.

Things got started early when Gary Sanchez nailed a two-run homer into center to put the Yankees up 2-0 in the top of the 1st. The Tribe answered in the bottom of the inning with a Carlos Santana single that scored Francisco Lindor and Jose Ramirez to tie things up, then Jason Kipnis singled and drove in Austin Jackson to end the 2nd inning with the Indians up 3-2.

The Yankees had an explosive 3rd inning when Starlin Castro kicked things off with a grounder to left that scored Sanchez, followed by an Aaron Hicks three-run homer to right to put the Yankees up 6-3. Greg Bird added a two-run homer in the 5th to give New York a 5 point cushion over the Indians.

A clutch 6th inning brought the Indians within one when Francisco Lindor sent an 87 MPH slider into right field for a grand slam. Jay Bruce added a solo shot of his own in the bottom of the 8th to tie the game 8-8.

The break came in the 13th inning when Yan Gomes smoked the ball to left corner on a walk-off single and drove in the game-winning run.

Terry Francona got 2.2 innings from Corey Kluber, who came out in the top of the 3rd inning after giving up 7 hits and allowing 6 earned runs. The Yankees got 5.1 innings out of CC Sabathia. Sabathia allowed 3 hits and 4 runs (two earned) with 5 Ks. He left the game with a 3.38 ERA. Heading into extra innings, the Indians brought in Cody Allen and Josh Tomlin while New York brought in Aroldis Chapman and Dellin Betances. There’s no question that rotations will need big adjustments should they play to Game 4.
