4. Miami Hurricanes

Rank: 13, Opponent: Florida State Seminoles

Quite frankly, I would feel a great deal more confident about this upset if Miami Hurricanes star running back Mark Walton weren’t playing in this game. He is, however, which gives them their best offensive weapon. Regardless, the Hurricanes will be traveling to the northern part of the state on Saturday afternoon for a date with the Florida State Seminoles.

Fans will recall that this was the game postponed due to Hurricane Irma one week after the storm initially made landfall. That was the right call, but it certainly complicates this game in a big way. And a massive part of that is that we essentially know less about these two teams than every other in college football.

After losing to Alabama in the opener and star quarterback Deondre Francois suffering a season-long injury in the process, the Seminoles were upset in their first game back at the hands of a good NC State team. However, they responded to beat Wake Forest in a tough game last week. Meanwhile, Miami blew out Bethune-Cookman, pulled away late from Toledo and finally blew out Duke last week.

There’s no question that Miami has the better offense in this game with Francois out. However, FSU’s defense is clearly vastly superior to The U’s. At their best, with the likes of Derwin James, Michael Thomas and Tarvarus McFadden leading the way, this unit is absolutely elite. Thus, if that unit can get inspired at home for a rivalry game, they could potentially control the game and spur on an upset.
