Iowa State starting quarterback Jacob Park has taken a leave of absence from the team as he deals with unspecified medical issues.

The Iowa State Cyclones are on the road this week with a very tough task on their hands as they take on the Oklahoma Sooners in Norman. However, it was noted this week that starting quarterback Jacob Park had not traveled to Oklahoma with the team, obviously raising some questions in the process.

Well, head coach Matt Campbell has answered some of those inquiries. In a statement that was released to the Des Moines Register on Friday, Campbell noted that Park is actually not with the team right now at all, as he has taken a leave of absence to deal with unspecified medical issues.

“Jacob is a great young man dealing with some personal medical concerns,” Iowa State coach Matt Campbell said in the statement. “We are committed to helping him cope, supporting him on all levels and helping him prepare to get back on the playing field with his teammates as soon as possible.”

People are going to be speculating with it not being known what Park is actually dealing with, but for right now all we could hope for is that the young man is okay and can get back on the field healthy as soon as possible.

Park took over the starting quarterback job for the Cyclones at the end of last season and entered this year as the starter. Through four games under center for Iowa State, Park threw for 1,181 with nine touchdowns, five interceptions and a completion percentage of 61 percent.

At this time it’s unknown when Park will return to the Iowa State program, but again, hopefully, it’s soon and all of his medical issues that he’s dealing with have been properly resolved.
