It’s the postseason and once again the Washington Nationals and the World Champion Chicago Cubs are in the MLB playoffs. Will the Cubs (92-70) be able to hang on against the Nats (97-65) and make it to the National League Championship Series?

Despite their record, the Chicago Cubs had to work to get to the postseason after a slow start at the beginning of the season. Nevertheless the Cubbies are back in the postseason and they’re looking to get back to the World Series. Chicago will have ace Kyle Hendricks (7-5, 3.03 ERA, 123 K) on the mound. With the curse lifted, the Cubs can focus on going back to back without the pressure of 108 years on their backs.

The Nationals have some unfinished business in the postseason and they want to go deeper in the playoffs than they did in 2016. With four NL East titles in six years, the next stop is a World Series win. Stephen Strasburg (15-4, 2.52 ERA, 204 K) has the start while Max Scherzer recovers from a sore hamstring.

The Cubs can capitalize on the uncertainty in the Nats’ rotation. The Cubs have already posted their starters for the first three games of the NLDS while the Nationals are day by day. Should Washington get into trouble early in the game, they might burn through their available pitchers, which will change up the rotation in the Cubs’ favor.
