ATLANTA, GA - SEPTEMBER 02: Cam Akers

Florida State freshman running back Cam Akers showed early Saturday that he’s ready to be a rival of the Miami Hurricanes.

When it comes to rivalries in college football, there are many of them, but there are few more fierce than the one involving the Miami Hurricanes and Florida State Seminoles. It may not be the best rivalry in the game, but over the years we’ve been shown that it definitely may be the most violent. There have just been some brutal hits in this series throughout the years, and on Saturday, the latest comes from Florida State freshman running back Cam Akers.

In the first quarter of this one, as the Seminoles were looking to extend the lead on the Hurricanes, Akers broke left to the outside and went out of bounds just as a Miami defender was coming his way. Heading out of bounds, Akers could have just run away from the potential deadly hit, but instead, he decided to deliver a deadly blow of his own.

Now that right there is a hit that perfectly sums up what this rivalry is all about. Again, there have been some pretty violent bumps in these games in years past, and you can chalk this one up on the list as well. That Miami defender is going to be sore for a while after that one.

Maybe the best part about this is seeing a freshman acclimate himself to this rivalry in this manner. When these players arrive on their respective campuses, they’re taught just how much this means to each program. You can tell that the freshman Akers really took this all to heart.
