These are the headlines you’ll wake up to on Sunday morning from across the college football landscape.
One of my favorite parts about being a sports fan is making all sorts of predictions, no matter how bold or tame they may be. We pick winners of games, we predict when a player will have a big game or a dud of a performance. We take the eye test and combine that with our statistical analysis and come up with our predictions. This will be a little bit of a twist on a standard predictions article you may read because this will predict what the headlines will be when you wake up on Sunday morning with a college football hangover and ready to eat all the bacon and eggs you have like you’re Ron Swanson.
“The U is back, Hurricanes snap streak vs. FSU”
If not this year, then when? That’s the question being asked by Miami fans in advance of Saturday afternoon’s rivalry game. Florida State is 1-2 and barely beat Wake Forest to get that single win. Deondre Francois is out for the year and the Seminoles offensive line is atrocious. That should lead the Canes defense having a great afternoon and snapping their seven-game losing streak vs. their in-state rival. Meanwhile, look for Canes quarterback Malik Rosier and running back Mark Walton to showcase their 1-2 punch in the win. The win will signify that The U is back (Joe Tessitore voice) and Mark Richt’s team will be considered the toughest challenger for Clemson in the ACC.
“Big brother bullies little brother”
It’s been a decade since former Michigan running back Mike Hart referred to Michigan State as “little brother” and it back-fired as it coincided with the rise of the Spartans and the downfall of the Wolverines. Things are a little different now with Michigan back on top and the Michigan State coming off their worst season under Mark Dantonio. The Spartans are off to a much better start this year with a 3-1 record as they head back to Ann Arbor for the first time since they stunned Michigan with a blocked punt return for a touchdown as time expired to win two years ago. The first night game in the rivalry at the Big House is sure to be a memorable one, but not for Michigan State, as John O’Korn and the Wolverines are going to pick on their little brother like most big brothers do. Unfortunately, mom and dad can’t break this fight up for Michigan State.
