Can you say karma? After Baker Mayfield’s infamous flag plant at Ohio State, an Iowa State player flipped the script. The Cyclones’ shocking upset win over Oklahoma led to flag planting in Norman.

We all remember Baker Mayfield’s flag plant at Ohio Stadium in September. After Oklahoma’s win over Ohio State, the Sooners quarterback then added insult to injury to the Buckeyes. He would grab the OU flag, then brought it to midfield to stick it right in the turf. The backlash was present. It was controversial. OSU players took exception. As we found out on Saturday though, those in Columbus weren’t the only ones watching.

In the biggest upset of the 2017 season, Iowa State defeated Oklahoma on Saturday. The Cyclones’ 38-31 victory over the Sooners sent shockwaves around the college football world. It has effectively knocked the Sooners out of the CFB Playoff discussion. There will be several headlines coming out of this shocking turn of events in Norman. In particular, the fact that the Cyclones flipped the script on the Sooners.

After the win, players celebrated on the field — as they should have. The victory ended an 18-game losing streak to the Sooners. But, one player, in particular, must have watched what Mayfield did to the Buckeyes. Evrett Edwards, a Cyclones defensive back, turned the tables and struck midfield with the state flag of Iowa.

Karma is a you-know-what, huh? There will likely be some pushback here, just as there was after the incident in Columbus. With that said, we should all be here for fun like this, right? Iowa State did something that not many Cyclones teams could do. Therefore, they should be able to celebrate as they please. If that means planting flags, then so be it. If Oklahoma didn’t want this happening, then they should have taken care of business.

Time will tell to see if the pushback is as big as the one that followed Mayfield’s incident in September. It likely won’t, mostly due to the fact that Edwards does not have the star power that the Sooners QB does. Still, this is rather funny. It’s hard to disagree that Oklahoma didn’t have it coming to them. Furthermore, one has to wonder what the reaction in Columbus is to this.
