1. Some pretty big games are still on the schedule
Make no mistake about it, this loss on Saturday was horrible for Lincoln Riley and the Sooners, due in large part because of the opponent. Dropping one to Iowa State is not good to have on the resume, which is why the Sooners better be thankful that some big games lie ahead.
The journey back toward the top of the polls starts next weekend with the annual Red River Rivalry game against the Texas Longhorns inside the Cotton Bowl in Dallas. Then, the rest of the way, they have contests with Kansas State, Texas Tech, Oklahoma State, TCU and West Virginia.
Oh yeah, and then we certainly can’t forget that there’s a game in the Big 12 returning this season that has hurt the Sooners’ playoff chances in the past, the Big 12 Championship Game. Should Oklahoma run the table on that schedule mentioned above, then a win over one of them once again in the title game will have them in pretty good position.
So for now, mourn the loss, Sooners fans, but don’t panic. There is still a light at the end of the tunnel — no matter how dim it may be at the moment.
