Eagles hammer Cardinals behind Carson Wentz’s big day

On Sunday in the City of Brotherly Love, the Philadelphia Eagles routed the Arizona Cardinals. What came out of this Week 5 contest?

The NFC East-leading Philadelphia Eagles wasted little time making easy work of the Arizona Cardinals.

Doug Pederson’s club opened up a 21-0 first-quarter advantage and cruised to a 34-7 win.

Be prepared to see a lot of touchdown passes from Eagles’ quarterback Carson Wentz.

1. Carson Wentz

In the first quarter against the Cards, the second-year pro connected on seven of his nine throws for 121 yards and three scores. The improving quarterback finished the afternoon with 304 yards through the air and four touchdowns, albeit one interception. The 4-1 Eagles won their third game in a row.

2. Kenjon Barner

The versatile performer returned three punts for 110 yards, including a 76-yard jaunt in the first quarter that set up the Eagles’ second touchdown of the game. Barner also ran five times for 23 yards in Philadelphia’s 34-7 victory.

3. LeGarrette Blount

The two-time Super Bowl champion with the Patriots has been a solid addition for the Eagles this season. On Sunday against the Cards, he had 74 of the club’s 122 yards on the ground. Blount totaled a game-high 14 carries and exactly half of his yards came on one run.

The Eagles were 6.5-point favorites to handle the visiting Cardinals and covered the number with ease. The over/under entering Sunday’s contest was a challenging 45.
