Cleveland Browns fans deserve better than the rinse-and-repeat horribleness the team delivers.

If you’ve watched football over the last 20 years, then you’ve probably noticed the Cleveland Browns aren’t very good at it. That’s really depressing because there might not be a more loyal fanbase than those that occupy the Dawg Pound on a weekly basis, even though they all know what is coming.

Browns fans have watched this season through their fingers as the team has tricked everyone into thinking it might turn the corner. Things seemed set up to finally break the curse that has plagued the team since it returned to existence in 1999.

But of course, the universe hates the Browns and it’s the fans filling the Factory of Sadness each week that ultimately pay the price — literally and figuratively. The Browns game on Sunday against the Jets was a test of will that hopefully gave anyone happening to watch some insight in how painful it is to be a Browns fan.

Hopefully, you watched the game and saw how unfair it is to be a Browns fan. Most of those people didn’t choose that life but now have to live with it. The team should be about to turn the corner but are now the odds-favorite to go 0-16.

If you didn’t watch the game, let’s sum up Browns fandom and how much torture it involves. Hug a loved one and buckle up, this is how the other half of football fandom lives.

Almost straight-away, the Browns turned the ball over inside of the Jet’s 5-yard line.

Then, when the Browns got back into scoring position, kicker Zane Gonzalez missed his target about as badly as you possibly can.

Missing two scoring chances like that is bad, but it’s the Browns so we expect it to happen. But even bad teams don’t keep finding ways to have things go as badly as they are for Cleveland. The Browns were inside of the 5-yard line again, and like the first time turned the ball over.

*sigh* Then Zane Gonzalez missed, again.

That’s about as rinse-and-repeat as it gets.

In true Browns fashion, the team switched quarterbacks at halftime and of course, it resulted in a turn of events.

The Browns are just eternally cursed to have to live through this vicious cycle until the end of time. The mantra about how “there’s always next year” has been eroded by the Browns thanks to all the tears the team has forced fans to shed over the years.

Things just have to get better. The law of averages dictates as much, but it would be such a Browns thing for the team to literally defy math and science — which seems to be what’s happening.
