In a matchup of two teams off to hot starts to the 2017 NFL season, the Carolina Panthers will travel to the Motor City to take on the Detroit Lions.

The Detroit Lions snuck into the playoffs last season as a Wildcard, as they nearly blew their chance by giving away the NFC North division in Week 17. They were one of the better teams in the NFC all season long, and though they were blown out in the Wildcard Round, they did gain good experience. That has carried over into 2017, where the Lions have gotten out to a 3-1 start through the first quarter of the season.

For Carolina, they look more like the team that went to the Super Bowl after the 2015 season, than the team who was terrible on both sides of the ball in 2016. Cam Newton appears healthy again, even though his big mouth got him in trouble this past week. He will lay it all out on the field on Sunday, as a win against Detroit would solidify them as a true contender in the NFC this season.

Both of these teams have proven they can win close games, and this one should go down to the wire on Sunday. A win on Sunday would prove huge in the big picture when it comes time for the playoffs, so expect a hard-fought battle in this one. If Cam continues to play the way he has early, the Panthers could wind up pulling off a solid road victory at Ford Field.
