Oct. 7 will forever be known as the day Demetrious Johnson broke the record for consecutive title defenses in UFC history. Here are how some fighters reacted on social media.

Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson has broken Anderson Silva’s record for most consecutive title defenses in UFC history, ladies and gentlemen.

In the co-main event of UFC 216, Johnson faced a very game contender in Ray Borg for his eleventh title defense since winning the flyweight championship in 2012. Borg was said to be completely different from the other opponents Johnson had faced in the past and was looking to prove himself against the best in the division.

Johnson had other plans, though.

Throughout five rounds, Johnson kept a fast pace that saw him effortlessly control his opponent both standing and on the ground. At one point in the fight, Johnson would land 62 punches to Borg’s 1.

In the fifth, Johnson hit a suplex into a flying armbar submission that forced Borg to tap. Now, Johnson has become immortalized in UFC history as the man who holds the most title defenses.

During the post-fight interview, Johnson made it clear to everyone what kind of fighter he is inside the Octagon.

“I’m in the business of making a fool of you, throwing you around like a sack of potatoes and armbarring you,” said Johnson to commentator Joe Rogan.

After such a historic accomplishment, there were many fighters who reacted to Johnson’s performance tonight. Here are some of the best:

With dispatching yet another contender, Johnson does have a few options that he can entertain for his next title defense. First, he can wait for the winner of the Sergio Pettis and Henry Cejudo fight that is set to take place at UFC 218 on Dec. 2.

Or, if there is any talk about Johnson clearing out the division, he can go up in weight and face the winner of Cody Garbrandt and T.J. Dillashaw for the bantamweight championship. Johnson has competed before in this division but moved down a weight class after coming up short in capturing the title against Dominick Cruz in 2011.

In yet another incredible showing, the combat sports world should be nothing but appreciative of Johnson and all that he has been able to accomplish. After a night like this, it is hard not to put him among those who are considered the greatest of all time.
