WWE Hell in a Cell 2017 highlights: Kevin Owens vs. Shane McMahon
At WWE Hell in a Cell, Shane McMahon and Kevin Owens settled their rivalry in the feared steel structure.
WWE Hell in a Cell 2017 didn’t close out with the WWE Championship match. Instead, it was Kevin Owens vs. Shane McMahon, as they battled inside Hell in a Cell. This was to settle their long-standing feud from SmackDown Live.
McMahon couldn’t wait for the match to begin, as he jumped Owens before he stepped into the ring. This set up a quick start and a quick advantage for the SmackDown Commissioner.
After a few minutes, the action spilled into the cell which the referee locked. This opened the match for Owens, however, who threw McMahon into the cell on multiple occasions. KO even harrassed Shane O’Mac’s kids, who were sitting at ringside.
Around 10 minutes into the match, McMahon attempted his first big stunt of the evening: a Shooting Star Press. Identical to WrestleMania 33, he missed the mark and it hurt him.
The fans called for tables, so Owens pulled one from under the ring and set McMahon on it. However, as the Canadian star went for a cannonball off the apron, Shane moved out of the way, which sent the former through the table.
To follow that up, McMahon hit his famous Coast-to-Coast move, dropkicking a trash can into Owens’ gut. Even as McMahon nears 50-year-old, he can still pull off risky but entertaining moves like this. That’s when he got crazier, though, and unlocked the cell door.
Was he the most insane one, though? Not even close, because Owens, who placed a batted McMahon on an announce table, decided to climb the 20-foot cell. He hesitated, though, which led to Mr. Here Comes the Money climbing the cell himself. That led to the fight taking place at the top of the structure.
After a long battle on the cell’s roof, Owens and McMahon climbed halfway down the cell. They started fighting, until the former United States Champion was thrown off and crashed through an announce table. So what does McMahon decide to do? He climbed the cell, again, but jumped and took a gigantic leap of faith. However, he was saved by … Sami Zayn?
Zayn then forcibly placed Owens on McMahon and demanded the referee count the pinfall. He did and the match ended.

A shocking heel turn from Zayn, who was the bitter enemy of Owens for years, going back to their Ring of Honor days. So it’s almost unthinkable that these two would realign in any storyline. Here we are, though, at Hell in a Cell, in 2017. Wrestling can be bizarre but fall of wild twists and turns. This is just the latest and should provide eventful fallout on SmackDown Live.
