5 ways the Diamondbacks can still come back in NLDS
1. Pitch better
Although the starters have yet to be announced for the “if possible” Games 4 and 5, the Diamondbacks are taking things one game at a time. All hands are on deck in order to keep the series alive and keep the Diamondbacks in the postseason.
To put it simply, the Diamondbacks pitching has to get better. They’ve allowed 25 runs in three games. No matter the opponent, that is simply atrocious. The Diamondbacks hitters have pulled their own weight thus far, now it’s time for the pitchers to do the same.
Luckily for Arizona, experienced veteran Zack Greinke will take the mound in Game 3. Greinke, D-Backs ace and former Dodger, has struggled at certain points this season. But Greinke has always been known to bounce back from a bad performance, especially this season. Not only will Greinke provide a sense of relief for the team due to the fact that he’s their ace, he instills courage and his leadership and experience humble teammates. Greinke’s not only familiar with the situation, he’s familiar with the Dodgers line-up too. And that may be exactly what the Diamondbacks pitchers need during the series.
Greinke will be tasked with keeping the team’s playoff hopes alive and the grit of the bullpen staff will be tested.

All in all, the task is rather basic: pitch better. Although that task is easier said than done, the Diamondbacks rotation has shown glimpses of greatness throughout the season. Now, it’s time for them to lace up their cleats and show up in the playoffs. If Arizona’s pitching can improve, the Diamondbacks have a serious chance of getting back into the series, but it all starts with Greinke in Game 3.
