Will Astros-Red Sox ALDS Game 4 get rained out?
The Houston Astros can advance to the ALCS with a win on Monday, but will ALDS Game 3 at Fenway park be rained out?
A full schedule of playoff baseball starts in Boston at Fenway Park on Monday afternoon, as the Houston Astros can clinch a trip to the ALCS with a Game 4 win over the Boston Red Sox. First pitch is scheduled for 1:08 p.m. local time, with Doug Fister taking the mound for the Red Sox against Charlie Morton for the Astros.
But it’s raining in Boston virtually as we speak, and the radar for game time is not any better. Via Weather.com, there’s now a 50% chance of showers at 2:00 p.m ET, a 60 percent chance at 3:00 p.m and a 95 percent chance at both 4 and 5 p.m ET. The chances of getting a full game in with no prolonged interruptions look incredibly long, to say the least.
As Hardball Talk cited, the weather forecast in Boston is much better on Tuesday, on what would be a travel day if the Red Sox were to win Game 4 and send the teams back to Houston for a decisive Game 5. If the Houston wins Game 4 and clinches the series, whenever it’s played, losing a day between games would, of course, become inconsequential and render the prospect of Game 5 moot.

Official word on a rainout/game postponement should come before the scheduled first pitch, but the chances the Astros and Red Sox playing Game 4 early Tuesday afternoon look pretty good right now. The scheduled starters should not change, but Red Sox manager John Farrell did say Chris Sale would be available out of the bullpen on Monday. A postponement to Tuesday would give Sale an extra day, to perhaps shift roles and give him the start in place of Fister.
