3. Luke Falk, QB, Washington State
Coming off of a huge upset of USC, Washington State Cougars quarterback firmly cemented himself in the Heisman Trophy conversation. However, there was another looming test in the wake of that big win. Traveling to Eugene to face the Oregon Ducks in Autzen Stadium looked to be a big task for the senior quarterback and had the potential for a letdown game.
Though his completion rate was the lowest of the season (57.1 percent), Falk still showed out in a big way in leading Washington State to move to 6-0 on the season. He finished with 282 yards passing, three touchdowns and no interceptions. On the season, that now gives Falk an even 2,000 yards while completing 71.8 percent of his throws. Even better, his 19 touchdowns in six games are quite impressive, but even more so beside only two interceptions on the season.
Falk has proven to be both prolific and productive throughout his career under Mike Leach in Pullman. However, he’s never led a team as successful as this version of Wazzu appears to be. What’s more, he’s never come across as the leader he’s been this season on this team. If he can continue this type of production throughout the heart of Pac-12 play, he’s not going anywhere in the Heisman conversation.
