The UCLA Bruins come off their bye week this weekend, and will be looking to build on a big win the last time out. Coming off road losses to Memphis and Stanford, UCLA beat the Colorado Buffaloes at home prior to their bye, and will travel to take on a pumped up Arizona team in Week 7. Arizona is coming off a huge win of their own against Colorado, and have two quarterbacks who can beat you on any given Saturday.
For UCLA, their game plan is simple, and that is to throw the football. Josh Rosen is one of the best quarterbacks in the country, and when he is on, he can shred any defense that stands in his way. They have actually been getting some good production from their running game as well, as Soso Jamabo is averaging over 5.0 yards per carry this season.
The Bruins are still very much alive in the Pac-12 South, and just need to be more consistent on both sides of the ball. Rosen is definitely going to do his thing against Arizona, but the real question is whether they can stop the tandem of Brandon Dawkins and Khalil Tate. The schedule is tough ahead, with road games at Washington, Utah, and USC, so if they get to the Pac-12 title game, they will have certainly earned it.
The Utah Utes controlled their own destiny heading into their Week 6 matchup against Stanford, as they were the only remaining undefeated team in the Pac-12 South. However, the team could not overcome the loss of starting quarterback Tyler Huntley, as fill-in Troy Williams threw two big interceptions in the game. Williams is a former starter for the Utes, and while he played decent football against the Cardinal, he is not the player Huntley is.
For Utah, they can still win the Pac-12 South, but they need to do a better job protecting the football. Everybody knows they have one of the best defenses in the Pac-12, and maybe even in the country, but they will need a healthy Huntley moving forward. Wide receiver Darren Carrington III had another monster game for Utah this past weekend, hauling in seven catches for 99 yards and a touchdown in the losing effort.
Utah will take on USC on Saturday, in a game that will have major implications in deciding the South Division. They have the talent on defense to stop USC, as Trojans quarterback Sam Darnold has been known to turn it over this season. This is still a top-25 team, and I would not be surprised if they are the last team standing in the South by the time the season comes to a close.
