Eagles at Panthers: Preview, prediction, odds and pick
By John Buhler
The Carolina Panthers will host the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday night in Week 6. Here is a game preview, the betting odds and a final score prediction.
Week 6 of the 2017 NFL season is here. The first few weeks have blown by and we’ve got an incredible game on our hands for Thursday Night Football this week. Meeting at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte will be the Philadelphia Eagles (4-1) and the Carolina Panthers (4-1).
Kickoff will be at 8:25 p.m. ET on Oct. 12. CBS and the NFL Network will have the telecast. In the booth to call the game for CBS will be Jim Nantz and Tony Romo. The available live streams for this game can be found on Amazon, NFL.com and on FuboTV.
This game features two of the hottest teams in the NFC. Both clubs are 4-1. The winner has to feel really good about where it stands in the hierarchy of the NFC. It’s hard to deny a team being good if they start out the season at 5-1. Barring something strange, we’ll see just that on the gridiron in Charlotte on Thursday night.
Betting Odds
Point Spread: Carolina -3.5
Moneylines: Carolina -175, Philadelphia +155
Over/Under: 45.5
According to SportsBook Review, Carolina will be laying 3.5 points to visiting Philadelphia. The associated moneylines for this game are Carolina -175 and Philadelphia +155. This game’s over/under comes in at a combined 45.5 points.
It may be a short week for these two teams, but we could expect them to put up some points. The Eagles offense has come to live in recent weeks due to second-year quarterback Carson Wentz making the leap. Cam Newton has played very well in the last two weeks, so Carolina looks to be in good shape on that side of the ball, too.
For that reason, let’s go with the over in this one. These are two teams that are strong defensively, but good quarterback play should get us over the 45.5 combined points. So who is going to come out on top in this battle of emerging NFC powers?
It might be at home for Carolina, but the Eagles are superior on both sides of the trenches. Philadelphia’s pass rush will cause Newton to throw one too many interceptions. Look for a costly one in the fourth quarter that sets up a game-winning field goal by rookie kicker Jake Elliott.

It won’t be as spectacular as that 61-yard he had to beat the New York Giants, but it will be good enough to get Philadelphia to 5-1 on the season. Carolina will play well enough to win this game, but Philadelphia is one of the few teams that is playing better ball than the Panthers right now.
Prediction: Eagles 27, Panthers 24
