Luke Kuechly injury update: Panthers LB leaves game vs. Eagles with injury
By Jack Crosby
Carolina Panthers star linebacker Luke Kuechly left the game against the Philadelphia Eagles Thursday night with an undisclosed injury.
Thursday Night Football this week actually brings us a pretty huge matchup out of the NFC as the Carolina Panthers welcome in the Philadelphia Eagles in a battle of teams that are both 4-1 on the year. However, as these two teams battle in Charlotte, the Panthers may have suffered another Luke Kuechly setback.
As the second quarter of the game was winding down on Thursday night with the Eagles having possession, All-Pro linebacker Luke Kuechly exited the game and went to the sidelines. From there, he was taken to the locker room to be evaluated for injury.
At this time, it’s not known exactly what sort of injury Kuechly suffered. The CBS broadcast a short time ago did show the play that took place right before he left the game, and it showed him coming off the edge and taking a shot to the shoulder area from an Eagles offensive lineman. He hit the ground immediately, but not even the fall appeared to be that awkward. If anything, it looked like Kuechly may have tweaked his left leg somewhere.
Kuechly, as everyone knows, has battled injuries in the past, specifically concussions. Just last season he suffered his latest one in a game against the Saints but there’s no telling whether or not that may be the case here.
UPDATE: That is indeed the case, as the team announced he’s being evaluated for a concussion. Should it turn out to be the worst-case scenario, this would be his third concussion in the last three years.
Heading into this game on Thursday night, Kuechly has participated in all five games for the 4-1 Panthers, recording 42 tackles with one interception. It’s seemed he’s once again headed for another stellar season to add to his resume but we’ll have to see now whether or not this injury will put a damper on the rest of his campaign.
As more becomes available, we’ll keep you updated.
