The Cult of Carm is casting a spell over those unsure of which one of us to root for in the FanSided Pick ‘Em Pool.

Last week was a real separation of the contenders and pretenders in the FanSided pick ’em pool. Patrick Schmidt — who last week was embroiled in controversy — has widened his seemingly untouchable lead at the top of the standings.

The most interesting drama is right underneath him, where Mike Dyce and Kayla Knierim both had banner weeks where they shot up the rankings. Kayla is somehow in second place despite never being able to pick the Rams games right (she’s super superstitious about the team winning/losing based on how she picks). Dyce, unlike his Cowboys, didn’t blow a late lead and was able to capitalize on an otherwise poor week from everyone else.

Jack Jorgensen, who at one point turned in an almost flawless week of picks, almost forgot to turn his picks in this week. He’s a Yankees fan though so his attention is being occupied elsewhere. His sudden disinterest in picks certainly has nothing to do with only picking four games right last week, I’m sure.

There’s not a whole lot of room for me to trash talk the staff, though. Apparently, I made my picks with my eyes closed last week, and now Carm is breathing down my neck at the bottom of the standings. I’m not sure if you can be mathematically eliminated from winning the pick pool in Week 6, but Carm is trying his damndest. Then again, he’s the lovable loser of the FanSided pick pool, which makes him the most endearing one of us that you could root for. I have less than zero interest in finishing in last place, but even I’m rooting for him to pull off the comeback. The man has made an art out of making picks that are absolutely atrocious, yet somehow it’s starting to work out in his favor.

Miracles do happen, kids. You just have to believe.
