Chicago White Sox: Keep the rebuild going

Since last offseason began, the White Sox have traded away Chris Sale, Adam Eaton, Jose Quintana, Melky Cabrera, David Robertson, Tommy Kahnle and Todd Frazier. Gutting the roster has given the White Sox one of the best farm systems in baseball, with Yoan Moncada, Lucas Giolito and Reynaldo Lopez all reaching the big leagues this season. Michael Kopech and Eloy Jimenez are the two most exciting names still down in the minors to watch.

The White Sox have already dealt away most of their valuable assets but can still make another move or two this winter to add more prospects. Selling high on outfielder Avisail Garcia might make sense for the front office. Garcia entered 2017 as a non-tender candidate with a career .258/.310/.385 line. Something clicked for him last year, and the 26-year-old hit .330/.380/.506 with 18 home runs and 80 RBI. He was named to the All-Star team for the first time in his six-year career.

Should the White Sox feel confident that Garcia has found some magic and is setting up to go on a run of All-Star seasons? He actually hit better in the second half, posting an OPS of .933 in 58 games, including .423/.481/.521 in August. There are dozens of hitters like Garcia scattered across MLB history who found it after a slow start to their career, but there are hundreds who popped a ridiculous season and never duplicated it.

Chicago has been very smart with their rebuild so far and will be ready to win again very soon. A player like Garcia might not figure into their long-term plan, though, and should be shopped this winter for a few more elite prospects.
