The SEC looks to have a few elite teams and not much else. Here are the latest power rankings in the conference heading into the Week 7 slate this weekend.
It’s been an interesting season thus far in the SEC. Though the conference still lacks what we would call a middle, it does have three of the top 10 teams in the nation entering Week 7. The only other Power 5 conference that can say that is the Big Ten.
These three teams are the No. 1 Alabama Crimson Tide (6-0), the No. 4 Georgia Bulldogs (6-0) and the No. 10 Auburn Tigers (5-1). Interestingly, these are the only three ranked teams in the SEC. Four teams received votes to be in the AP Top 25 Poll but didn’t make the cut.
Few would argue that Alabama, Auburn, and Georgia aren’t among the best teams in the country. All three programs play outstanding defense, run the ball effectively and get enough play out of their starting quarterback. The big question in the SEC is who composes the upper middle tier in the conference?
It changes every week, but eventually, the SEC will have a fourth or fifth team ranked in the top 25. That could be happening this weekend, but we’ll have to wait and see about that. Here are the weekly SEC power rankings heading into Week 7.
It was only a matter of time before the Ole Miss Rebels would completely crater and give up on their season. After losing on the road in Berkeley to the California Golden Bears, the Rebels have been dismantled by Alabama and Auburn in SEC play. This team might only win a game or two the rest of the way.
To be below Missouri in these power rankings says everything you need to know about the Ole Miss program. Interim head coach Matt Luke may want to win so bad at his alma mater, but he’s not in a winnable situation this year. You have to feel for the guy, but this Ole Miss team is rancid.
We’ll give the Missouri Tigers their brief day in the sun. Congratulations, you are not the worst team in the SEC … this week. Missouri almost beat the division rival Kentucky Wildcats in Lexington, but a terrible play call cost quarterback Drew Lock a chance at throwing the winning touchdown.
It’s getting to the point where it just needs to be basketball season at Mizzou. This once-proud football program is a shell of itself. The fanbase is tired of seeing 100 plays of lackluster offense crush its own defense every week. Missouri needs a massive overhaul. It’s starting to look like Barry Odom and Josh Heupel are gone after this year.
