The United States Soccer Federation schedules a spontaneous conference call following loss to Trinidad and Tobago.

The United States Soccer Federation will address the media on Friday via conference call according to a press release put out on Thursday. At this point, the subject matter is not known. However, one thing still remains certain: the United States will not be playing in the 2018 World Cup in Russia. The conference call is scheduled to take place at 11:30 a.m. ET and is open to all media.

Although the press release doesn’t reveal much, one detail is crucial: Sunil Gulati is the only person listed to participate in the call. Following an embarrassing loss to Trinidad and Tobago, soccer fans around the United States have not only called for the head of manager Bruce Arena, but for Gulati’s as well. As it stands, Gulati seems unlikely to be going anywhere. He could shock the country and resign tomorrow — but that’s not likely to happen.

However, it is now almost certain that manager Bruce Arena will be sacked in the near future. That news may even be the subject matter of the conference call. In the mean time, fans remain in the dark, waiting for some news. The United States Soccer Federation has remained quiet for the most part since the loss in Couva. Whether they’re scheming or simply shocked, the federation owes it to the fans to say something.
