NFL roundup: Andrew Luck increasing workload in practice

LOS ANGELES, CA - SEPTEMBER 10: Andrew Luck

While he might not be back for Week 6 of the NFL schedule, Colts quarterback Andrew Luck certainly looks to be getting healthier everyday.

The Indianapolis Colts are hoping to get their star quarterback back at some point during the 2017 NFL season, and it is starting look more like a reality. Andrew Luck has started increasing his workload in practice, and that means he may be able to come back towards the middle of the season. Luck had offseason shoulder surgery on his throwing shoulder, and while fans want him back on the field, taking as much time as needed is the best course of action for the franchise long-term.

Staying with the Colts, their opponent in Week 6 will be the Tennessee Titans, who also may be without their star quarterback. Marcus Mariota was injured in Week 4 and was replaced by Matt Cassel in the starting lineup during the team’s Week 5 loss to the Miami Dolphins. Mariota suffered a hamstring injury, and while he hopes to play this weekend against the Colts, he will likely be a game-time decision.

The Atlanta Falcons lost to the Buffalo Bills in Week 4, and after a bye week in Week 5, they have had two weeks to get healthy. That time has been put to good use by Julio Jones, who appears ready to go this week. Jones was dealing with a hip injury, and while it may still be nagging him, he will likely be on the field when his Falcons take on another AFC East opponent in the Miami Dolphins this Sunday.

Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs are rolling right now, as they currently sit as the only undefeated team left in the NFL. However, Kelce is dealing with concussion protocol, which is always a scary thing. Kelce is advancing in the protocol, and if he can get on the field in Week 6, he will be going up against a Los Angeles Chargers defense that he could certainly exploit in the passing game.

The New York Giants are struggling right now, and it looks like they will not have one of their top cornerbacks for the foreseeable future. Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie left the Giants facility earlier this week, and on Thursday, he was suspended indefinitely by the team. The longest he can be suspended if four weeks, but if you are a Giants fan, you have to be wondering what the heck is going on with your team right now.
