He avoided a more serious injury, but NC State defensive end Bradley Chubb’s dislocated finger on Saturday is not a sight for squeamish eyes.
After a big win over Louisville nine days ago, the North Carolina State Wolfpack avoided a letdown on Saturday by beating Pittsburgh 35-17 on the road. Defensive end Bradley Chubb entered the week with an ACC-leading seven sacks, good for a multi-way tie for sixth in the country in that category.
Chubb had a pretty quiet outing against Pitt on Saturday, with two tackles, two credited quarterback hurries and a pass breakup. But during the third quarter of the game, an injury surely left him making some serious noise in pure agony.

Chubb’s left pinkie finger ended up pointed in a direction it’s clearly not supposed to be, and it was easy to immediately think he broke his finger. But he only suffered a dislocation (easy for me to say), missed just a few plays and made an impact in coverage virtually right after coming back in on the next offensive series for Pitt.
Not bad coverage skills for a defensive end who just completely dislocated his finger the series before pic.twitter.com/yzjLttFZX7

Chubb is a top NFL prospect, and due in part to the premium placed on pass rusher he’s looking like a likely first-round pick in the 2018 draft. Not that a broken finger would have derailed his draft stock all that much, but probably not having to miss any games will allow Chubb to offer pro scouts and a full complement of tape to pour over. With a couple big, showcase-style games coming against Notre Dame (Oct.28) and Clemson (Nov. 4), full health will be important for Chubb as NC State heads into and comes out of a bye week next week.
Chubb did show NFL evaluators how tough he is on Saturday if nothing else.
