Broncos vs. Giants Week 6 recap, highlights and more

In a Sunday Night Football battle, the New York Giants won their first game of the season, dominating the Denver Broncos on the road.

After a horrible Week 5 game against the Los Angeles Chargers, the New York Giants travel West to take on the Denver Broncos on Sunday Night Football. Last week, the Giants saw Odell Beckham Jr. and Brandon Marshall’s season end with ankle injuries, so it was anybody’s guess as to where the offense would come against one of the best defenses in the NFL. Eli Manning and the rest of the Giants shook off the haters, getting out to a 17-3 halftime lead, thanks to some solid play on both sides of the ball.

Manning hit first rounder Evan Engram for a touchdown pass, and then Janoris Jenkins picked off Trevor Siemian and took it to the house to give the team the 14-point halftime lead. Siemian hurt his shoulder trying to tackle him, and the Broncos had to bring in Brock Osweiler, but he came back after the break. It did not matter, as the Giants defense really came to play in this one.

The Broncos tried to make a comeback in the second half, but every time they would move the ball, the Giants defense would come up with a big stop. In addition, the Broncos receivers kept going down to injury, including Emmanuel Sanders, who had to be carted off with an ankle injury. When the smoke finally cleared, the Giants had come away with a huge road victory, and won their first game of the 2017 NFL season.

1. Janoris Jenkins, New York Giants

Janoris Jenkins and the rest of the New York Giants defense had to step up on Sunday night, especially after the team lost nearly all of its offensive weapons the week before. Jenkins led a spirited group that harassed Trevor Siemian all game long, and it was his pick-six that turned out to be the difference maker. With the game at 10-3 getting close to halftime, Jenkins picked off Siemian and too it to the house, and the Giants never looked back.

2. Evan Engram, New York Giants

The Giants need a big season out of their first round pick, and he proved to be capable of picking up the slack on Sunday night. Evan Engram was Eli Manning’s main target all night long, and led the team in receiving yards while scoring a touchdown. He is a difference maker at the tight end position, possessing incredible speed, and looked very comfortable as the main target against the Broncos.

3. Demaryius Thomas, Denver Broncos

In a game that had few bright spots for the home team, Demaryius Thomas played like a warrior for the Broncos in this one. The veteran wide out had more than twice the amount of catches as the next player in this game for either team, and went over 100 yards receiving. He also played on a hurt ankle for what seemed like the entire second half, so the fact that he was able to be so productive shows why he is one of the best in the division.

Betting Odds

The line heading into this game was the Giants getting 12.5, and they certainly looked like they were upset about that spread on this night. They won the game outright, and silenced a lot of their doubters in the process. The over/under was set at 39.5, and that proved to be a solid line, as the defenses really came to play in this one. The Denver Broncos will hit the road in Week 7, as they head to Carson, California to take on the Los Angeles Chargers in another AFC West showdown. The New York Giants will head back East to take on the Seattle Seahawks, as they still are looking for their first win of the season.
