Texans blast Browns to keep Cleveland winless
By John Buhler
The Houston Texans defeat the Cleveland Browns on Sunday afternoon in Week 6, 33-17. Here are all the highlights, the game recap and the final score.
The Houston Texans dominated the Cleveland Browns on Sunday afternoon, dismantling the still winless Cleveland bunch, 33-17. Houston improves to 3-3 on the year, while Cleveland sinks to 0-6 on the season.
Browns head coach Hue Jackson’s decision to go with Kevin Hogan as his starting quarterback was complete disaster everybody but him saw coming. Hogan completed 20 of 37 passes for 140 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions. Cleveland’s offensive ineptitude allowed a refocused Texans defense to punish them all game.
Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson continues to grow as a franchise signal caller. He completed 17 of 28 passes for 225 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. His rapport with fellow Clemson Tiger in No. 1 wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins is giving this Texans team the balance it will need to contend in the AFC this season.
Even though the Texans have a blowout loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars in divisional play, they will contend for the division for the third straight year. Bulldozing Cleveland at home was largely expected in this game, but we have to recognize that Houston now has an offense that can complement is menacing defense.
As for the Browns, the losing continues. The team feels directionless. Seemingly every week Jackson is either asked or opts to put out a quarterback that’s not ready to play. There was nothing close to a moral victory in this colossal defeat. Something has to give with the Browns. This rebuild is not going anywhere close to plan.
You have to give the Texans credit for beating up on a weak opponent at home. This is what good teams are supposed to do. Houston might qualify as that now, but Cleveland remains the worst team in football by a wide margin.
