Week 7 of college football is in the books. Let’s look at the projected Top 25 after four top teams lost.
Another week of college football ended on early Sunday morning. Upsets filled Week 7, including No. 2 Clemson and No. 8 Washington State falling on Friday night. no. 10 Auburn even lost to an unranked opponent. So, it’s safe to say the upcoming rankings will look different.
Alabama won and likely keeps its No. 1 spot. Everyone else is a mystery, though, starting with No. 2 and going from there. Will Penn State claim the second spot? Was Georgia’s win enough for them to slide behind the Crimson Tide?
There are plenty of projected changes for the next set of College Football Rankings, so let’s take a look at how things could look for Week 8.
No. 25: Memphis
Memphis played it close with No. 25 Navy but pulled out a 30-27 win. They’re now 5-1 and potentially earned a spot in the College Football Rankings for Week 8. Houston and Tulsa are the next challenges for the Tigers, as they look to keep up their momentum.
No. 24: West Virginia
West Virginia rejoins the Top 25 after a win over No. 24 Texas Tech. It’s difficult to call this an “upset,” as the Mountaineers were ranked last Saturday. However, it’s still an impressive win that gets them ranked and a better spot in the Big 12.
No. 23: LSU
LSU marches into the Top 25 after a comeback win over Auburn. They dominated the second half and walked out with a much-needed win, one that keeps the boos away from head coach Ed Orgeron, at least for another week. Ole Miss is next for the Tigers, before the annual rivalry game with Alabama.
No. 22: Stanford
Behind yet another strong performance from Bryce Love, Stanford dominated Oregon and moved to 5-2. It was the second-to-last game before their schedule amplifies, with Washington State, Washington, California, and Notre Dame on the way. For now, though, things are status quo in Palo Alto.
No. 21: UCF
An easy win for UCF in Week 7, although against a bad Eastern Carolina team. That could hurt their standing in the rankings, if anything. However, this projection leaves them as the No. 22 team in the nation, the same rank from the AP Poll. Navy will be the Knights’ biggest test of the season on Saturday, and could threaten their perfect record.
