7. Josh Doctson, Washington Redskins
Ownership % – Yahoo 6%, ESPN 12%
Washington is coming off a bye and the last play that Doctson put on tape was dropping a tough catch on Monday Night Football that could have given the Redskins a win in Kansas City. It wasn’t an easy grab to make, but Doctson had it until he hit the ground. Doctson has had his young career marred by injuries and inconsistency to this point. Week 6 could be the week he breaks out.
The targets haven’t been there to this point and that is a concern. He’s seen just six the past three games. The reason I think Doctson could have a big game is two-fold. First, he was a very high draft pick in 2016. Washington clearly thinks highly of him and wants him to succeed. Secondly, WR Terrelle Pryor hasn’t been terribly effective through Washington’s first four games. They need a consistent playmaker in the passing game for QB Kirk Cousins to lean on. Doctson has all the natural ability to fill this role.
The matchup is a juicy one. San Francisco is on their third straight road game and most West Coast teams tend to struggle with the 1:00 p.m. EST start time. Their defense gives up 250 yards passing per game. Cousins and Doctson should be able to hook up for at least one long pass, possibly finding the end zone this week.
