On Sunday at MetLife Stadium, the New England Patriots rallied to knock off the New York Jets. What did we learn from this Week 6 showdown?

Entering Sunday’s renewal of acquaintances between the New England Patriots and New York Jets, Bill Belichick’s club had bested the Green and White in 10 of the previous 12 meetings.

The Jets’ two wins both came at MetLife Stadium and each in overtime.

When Todd Bowles’ team took a 14-0 lead on Sunday afternoon, the Pats were in danger of losing their third games in six weeks. But the defending champions rallied for a 24-17 victory to raise their record to 4-2.

1. Rob Gronkowski

The touchdown machine was back in full force in New England’s come-from-behind win over the Jets. Targeted 10 times by Tom Brady, Gronkowski caught six passes for 83 yards and a pair of scores in the Patriots’ 24-17 victory.

2. Tom Brady

It wasn’t a thing of beauty and the the five-time Super Bowl champion was picked off once on the afternoon. But Brady also finished with 257 yards through the air and connected with Rob Gronkowski for a pair of touchdowns as the Pats came up with a big road win.

3. Josh McCown

The journeyman quarterback became the sixth player in as many games to throw for at least 300 yards against New England’s defense this season. McCown finished with 354 yards and two scores but was also picked off twice in a frustrating loss.

Odds

The defending Super Bowl champions were 11-point favorites to end the Jets’ three-game winning streak. The Patriots would hold on for a 24-17 win, once again disappointing their gambling faithful.

Next Week

After two straight road games, the New England Patriots return home and have a tall task ahead in the form of the revenge-minded Atlanta Falcons. The teams squared off in Super Bowl LI less than a calendar year ago and the Pats rallied from a 28-3 third-quarter deficit for a stunning 34-29 overtime win.

Meanwhile, the Green and White have a rematch of their own in facing the Miami Dolphins. Back in Week 3, the Jets came away with a 20-6 victory at MetLife Stadium.
