The New York Yankees took down the Houston Astros 8-1 in Game 3 of the 2017 ALCS in New York.
For the first time in the ALCS, the Astros didn’t have a former Cy Young winner on the mound, and the Yankees made them pay. The Bronx Bombers justified their namesake. New York lit up the scoreboard for eight runs, seven off Astros starter Charlie Morton, and cruised to an 8-1 win.
Strangely enough, it was New York who got on the board first. With one swing by Todd Frazier, the Bronx Bombers put up more runs than in their previous two games combined. As CC Sabathia continued to deal, the Yankees took an early 3-0 lead over the Astros. The Yankees designated hitter slump was broken by virtue of a Chase Headley RBI in the fourth. Headley ripped a two-out single up the middle, scoring Greg Bird. A wild-pitch scored Frazier to add to a big fourth inning from New York. Furthermore, Aaron Judge capped off the fourth with a three-run shot to left, giving the Yankees an 8-0 lead.
Sabathia and the rest of the bullpen continued to dominate in the later innings as New York held onto its 8-run lead. The Astros got one back in the ninth, but it was too little, too late. The Yankees got a game back in the series, they now trail 2-1 with Game 4 coming tomorrow from Yankee Stadium.
Three Stars
- Todd Frazier: “The Toddfather” got things started with a three-run home run and scored on a wild pitch in the fourth.
- CC Sabathia: Ultimately, Game 3 showcased vintage Sabathia. The 37-year-old threw six scoreless innings, only allowing three hits.
- Aaron Judge: Finally, the slump has been broken. Judge went yard to give New York an 8-0 lead and got the Bronx up on its feet.
