NFL quarterback rankings, Week 7: Cam Newton struggles
After a pair of promising games, Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton was substandard in a loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.
For those who don’t know, these rankings are calculated using a combination of past performance, current play and projected showing in the future.
Pete Liske Division
32. Kevin Hogan (Prev: 31)
The Browns benched DeShone Kizer for a guy with zero future who threw three interceptions against a mediocre Texans secondary. Nice job, Hue. Nice job.
31. Brett Hundley (Prev: NA)
Hundley had a rough game when pressed into duty, throwing a trio of interceptions in a 23-10 loss to the Vikings. Without Aaron Rodgers, the Packers are going downhill in a hurry. Tough break.
30. Joe Flacco (Prev: 26)
At what point do the Ravens start thinking about … gulp … paling Ryan Mallett? Flacco has been utterly abysmal, throwing four touchdowns against eight interceptions. Somehow, he has just 1,003 yards in six games.
29. Blake Bortles (Prev: 30)
Bortles is completing 57 percent of his throws for less than 200 yards per game. If the Jaguars had a real quarterback, they would be the heavy favorites to win the AFC South.
28. Mitch Trubisky (Prev: 28)
Trubisky is tough to evaluate. He makes some nice throws, especially on the run, but he also is asked to do little. Forget about stats with Trubisky, it’s about looking at traits, something that should give Bears hope through his first two games.
27. C.J. Beathard (Prev: NA)
Beathard gave the 49ers a spark in Washington, leading San Francisco back to a near-win. The rookie out of Iowa threw for 245 yards with a touchdown and an interception, and has earned the job moving forward.
