NFL schedule Week 7: Which teams have a bye this week?
By John Buhler
The 2017 NFL season is full steam ahead and will be in Week 7 this week. Which teams will be on their byes during this upcoming week of NFL action?
Week 6 of the 2017 NFL season was terrific. The road underdogs were the winners this week with so many upsets. Are we even sure who is the best team in football?
All we know is that no team will go undefeated this season, as the Kansas City Chiefs suffered their first loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday afternoon.
So we will turn our attention ahead to the upcoming week. Which teams will be on their byes in Week 7? This week, there will be 15 NFL games, so there are only two teams on byes. Those two teams are the Detroit Lions and the Houston Texans.
Detroit enters its bye at 3-3 on the year. The Lions have wins over the Arizona Cardinals, the New York Giants and the division rival Minnesota Vikings. Detroit’s three losses are to the Atlanta Falcons, the Carolina Panthers and the New Orleans Saints.
The Lions probably needed a bye or at the very least a weekend that doesn’t involve playing an NFC South team. Detroit is 0-3 against the division but 3-0 against everybody else. They could use a regroup after giving up 52 points to the Saints on the road in Week 6.
Houston enters its bye at 3-3 on the year as well. The Texans have wins over the Cincinnati Bengals, the Tennessee Titans and the Cleveland Browns. Those aren’t exactly great teams, but wins are wins.

The Texans’ three losses are to the division rival Jacksonville Jaguars, the New England Patriots and the Kansas City Chiefs. Those aren’t shameful, as all three of those teams have at least a slice of their division lead through six weeks. Houston could use a bye to get healthier on defense, but that blowout victory at home over Cleveland was essentially a bye anyway.
