With another week of Big 12 football over, how do the conference power rankings look?
This past weekend of Big 12 football wasn’t as eventful as what happened seven days prior, with Oklahoma falling to Iowa State. Instead, Saturday, Oct. 14, featured blowouts across the conference. Baylor, Kansas, Kansas State and Texas Tech all lost by double-digits, with the latter two falling by over 40 points in their respective games.
The winners, TCU, Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, West Virginia and Iowa State, found more momentum toward their strong starts to the season. They’re all in position for late-season success and are teams to watch for.
How did all of this impact the Big 12 power rankings for Week 8? Let’s take a look.

It was another week of college football, which meant another Baylor loss. They were obliterated by a rested Oklahoma State team, 59-16, and dropped to 0-6. The Cowboys dropped over 700 yards of offense in this game, including 459 passing yards from quarterback Mason Rudolph. Baylor’s Zach Smith countered with just 127 yards.
With a game against West Virginia on Saturday, Baylor looks poised to become 0-7. Their only winnable game comes on Nov. 4, against Kansas. That will be the battle of the Big 12 cellar teams, which decides whether the Bears go 0-12 or 1-11.
Speaking of disastrous Big 12 teams, Kansas got torched by a surprisingly good Iowa State team, 45-0. The Jayhawks had two quarterbacks throw for a combined 44 yards over 26 attempts. A horrible performance against a rising program that only dampens a rough 2017 season.
There wasn’t a bright side for Kansas in this game. Both sides of the ball played poorly and had no answer for anything the Cyclones did. It was a game to forget, to say the least.
To make matters worse, Kansas must travel to Fort Worth, TX, to face No. 4 TCU on Saturday night. Expect another lopsided final score.
