If there’s one thing that South Park’s been doing well for years, it’s taking serious subjects and somehow making light of it. This week promises to be no different, as the writers will look at how beloved entertainers are overdosing on opiates.
It’s not exactly a topic that’s been prevalent in the news cycle, but it’s important nonetheless. After all, this season South Park has promised to focus less on current events and more on getting back to its winning formula. After the first two episodes, it looks like the creators have been following through on that promise.
That’s not to say they haven’t parodied current events. Last week’s episode was about how people use Facebook to spread fake news, an issue that was especially prevalent during the election. They also made a brief reference to Harvey Weinstein, and based on this episode’s subject matter, they could go back to that well again.
