Here’s how the top 10 teams in the Group of Five grade out heading into week eight.
A chaotic Week 7 wasn’t just limited to the Power Five ranks, as a number of upsets and shocking results from last weekend will have a huge impact on the Group of Five race moving forward.
On the same weekend that four top-10 teams were defeated in huge upsets, two ranked G5 teams fell from the undefeated ranks. Most importantly, Boise State earned an impressive 31-14 road victory at San Diego State, knocking the Aztecs out of the top spot in the power rankings and potentially the New Year’s Six race.
Navy also suffered its first defeat of the season in a hard-fought 30-27 loss at Memphis, propelling the Tigers back into the top-25. UCF and USF had no such trouble, as the end-of-season War on I-4 rivalry showdown is shaping up to be a potential classic with a spot in a major bowl on the line.
While those results will have the biggest impact on G5 title races, there were a few stunners elsewhere. Troy failed to build on any momentum from the LSU upset with a bad 19-8 loss at South Alabama in midweek Sun Belt action, while Houston was thoroughly dominated by a 2-5 Tulsa team in a 45-17 road beatdown.
All the action led to some major changes in the Group of Five power rankings, with UCF and USF beginning to get some separation. Here’s how the top 10 G5 teams grade out heading into Week 8.
