Chiefs at Raiders: Highlights, score and recap

In an AFC West matchup, the Kansas City Chiefs traveled to Oakland to take on the Raiders on Thursday Night Football to kick off Week 7.

The Oakland Raiders played host to the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday night in a game that had serious implications on the rest of their season. After a Kansas City field goal to open the scoring, Oakland played a little trickery, as Derek Carr hit Amari Cooper for a touchdown on a flea flicker. Carr would connect with Cooper again in the first half for a score, but the Chiefs were still able to get to the break with a 20-14 lead.

Kansas City got a stunning touchdown from Tyreek Hill, who has become quite a playmaker for the Chiefs. The Raiders were done in once again by their kicker, as Giorgio Tavecchio missed two field goals in the first half. Tavecchio missed an extra point last weekend against the Los Angeles Chargers that proved to be the difference in a 17-16 loss. In addition to the struggles in the kicking game, running back Marshawn Lynch was ejected in the first half for contact with an official, leaving Oakland short-handed in the backfield.

DeAndre Washington got the nod with Lynch out, and he was featured mightily in the first drive of the half. In fact, Washington bulled his way into the end zone to give the Raiders the lead and showed incredible heart doing so. Following the Raiders touchdown, Kansas City responded with a highlight-reel touchdown of their own.

On third and long, Alex Smith hit Albert Wilson on a 63-yard touchdown off a deflection by Keith McGill. The touchdown gave the lead back to the Chiefs at 27-21, and it was the sixth lead change of the game. After trading field goals, the Raiders got the ball back with a little over two minutes left and down six, giving Carr one more shot to win the game.

The Raiders thought they won the game when Carr hit Jared Cook for what appeared to be a touchdown. After being ruled down at the one-yard line, the Raiders again looked to score but Michael Crabtree was called for offensive pass interference. On the next play, there was a defensive holding call, giving Oakland one more shot.

After the defensive holding call, Carr finally sealed the deal, hitting Crabtree for another touchdown. Tavecchio blasted the extra point through the uprights, giving the Raiders their first divisional win of the season. It was a wild end to an incredible AFC West matchup that showed why this division is considered one of the best in the NFL.

Final score: Oakland 31, Kansas City 30.

1. Derek Carr, Oakland Raiders

Well, Derek Carr came back last weekend against Los Angeles, but he really came back on Thursday night. Carr continuously took shots downfield, moving the ball with ease against the Chiefs defense to the tune of 417 yards and three touchdowns. The Raiders moved to 3-4 on the season, and it looks like they finally have it going on the offensive side of the ball.

2. Tyreek Hill, Kansas City Chiefs

One of the more explosive players in the AFC, Tyreek Hill made his presence known in primetime on Thursday night. The second-year wide receiver caught six balls for 125 yards in the game, including a 64-yard touchdown. The Chiefs offense had their way with the Raiders defense in this one, showing why they are considered the best team in the AFC.

3. Amari Cooper, Oakland Raiders

Amari Cooper had a monster game on Thursday night, shrugging off his rough start to the season to get the Raiders back into playoff contention. The veteran wideout had 11 catches for over 200 yards, while scoring twice. He is officially back, and so is this explosive Raiders offense.

Betting Odds

The Kansas City Chiefs were actually giving the Oakland Raiders three points on the road, and the Raiders ended up winning the game outright. The over/under was set at 47.0 points, and these two teams piled up the scoring, with a ton of lead changes in this one.
