College Football Results Against The Spread Week 7
We had a season high 59 FBS vs. FBS games over our college football weekend. It was a rough week in pick em, so I am a little worried about my spread picks as well. I know I missed more than half of my fives for the first time this college football season.

I only ended up with 30 points in college football Pick Em last week, my least in a week in four years. Too many points on Auburn and San Diego State hurt.
Gamebreaker_boz took back over the group lead as I fell all the way to eighth. Now I have to face the spread picks, and boy, am I nervous!
Here we will recap my picks against the spread. The winner against the spread will be in BOLD. My result will follow. Let’s get to it!

Late Saturday
South Alabama at Troy(-15.5): MISS! This was just a poor all around performance by Troy. They got punked at home by the Jaguars when they were three score favorites.
Texas State at Louisiana(-13.5): HIT! On the bright side for the Bobcats, they did manage to play their best road game of the season.
Clemson(-22.5) at Syracuse: HIT! The Tiger offense proved what they are capable of if they are lucky enough to draw a team without a defense.
Washington State(-14.5) at California: MISS! This significantly decreases the chances of College GameDay making it to Pullman after this horrid performance. This might be the worst that a Mike Leach coached team has ever played.
TCU(-6.5) at Kansas State: HIT! The Kansas State offense is a disaster right now. If they can’t get on track against a weak Oklahoma secondary, they have little chance at a bowl game.
Michigan(-7.5) at Indiana: MISS! It’s easy to blame all of Michigan’s troubles on the quarterback play or lack thereof, but this team has other issues as well. Indiana was able to move the ball, and Michigan had trouble against arguably the worst defense in the conference. The Wolverines also set an all time school record with 16 penalties. The University of Michigan has been playing football since 1879.
North Carolina State(-11.5) at Pittsburgh: HIT! The Wolfpack just wore Pitt out. The Panthers played a solid first three quarters before losing control of this game.
Texas Tech at West Virginia(-3.5): MISS! I’m still trying to figure out just how the Red Raiders lost control of this game. They led 35-17 about halfway through the third quarter then allowed 29 unanswered points to salvage defeat.
Florida State(-7.5) at Duke: MISS! The way the Seminoles played, it sure felt like they covered this line. The emergence of Cam Akers is the big story for Florida State here. They need a srong running back to take the heat off of freshman James Blackman.
Rutgers at Illinois(-2.5): MISS! Well, at least we know who the worst team in the Big Ten(14) is…..
Eastern Michigan at Toledo(-13.5): HIT! This was a great game, just like I expected. The Eagles are making me money right now even though they are just 2-3 on the season. They are a better team that Vegas gives them credit for.
BYU at Mississippi State(-24.5): MISS! I knew better. BYU has been terrible. This was another half that got me already. I already know there are at least two more. I’ve never lost by five halves in a week. I think it happened here.
South Carolina at Tennessee(-3.5): HIT! My morbid curiosity wants to see a steel cage match between Tennessee and Nebraska. The winning coach gets to keep their job for the rest of the season.
Kansas at Iowa State(-22.5): HIT! This was a dominant performance by the Iowa State defense. Kansas is likely better on offense than they were last year, and the Cyclones just shut them out. I don’t think anyone is lining up to play Iowa State right now. The Cyclones are just two wins away from their first bowl since 2012. I think they make it this year.
Connecticut at Temple(-9.5): MISS! This was a very poor performance by Temple. You can’t blame Logan Marchi. He threw for 356 yards. This one was on the defense.
Boston College at Louisville(-21.5): HIT! I never thought that BC would pull off the upset on the road, but the regression of Lamar Jackson continues. His offensive line is doing him no favors, but at some point he needs to stop making so many mistakes.
UNLV at Air Force(-7.5): MISS! You know the week is going bad when UNLV nearly toppled Air Force on the road. The Rebels are one of the hardest teams to handicap right now. You just never know which team will show up…..
Louisiana-Monroe(-6.5) at Texas State: HIT! There is money to be made in the Sun Belt if you know where to look. Picking the Bobcats to get covered is a good place to start.
Old Dominion at Marshall(-15.5): HIT! The Monarchs are having issues moving the ball against anyone right now.
Purdue at Wisconsin(-16.5): MISS! This was a solid showing by the Purdue defense. The weather helped slow the Badgers some, but it hurt Purdue more than it helped Wisconsin because the Purdue offense was grounded.
Auburn(-7.5) at LSU: MISS! Ed Orgeron has been taken off of direct heat now. He has been moved to the warming plate, but you can bet he will be right back on the hot seat should LSU stumble against anyone but Alabama.
Georgia Tech at Miami(FL)(-6.5): MISS! The Georgia Tech defense played well until the deluge hit. After that, Miami was lucky to win the game. Mother nature turned both teams into one dimensional squads. That hurt Miami far more than the Bees. On a weekend when so many ranked teams lost, Miami should feel very fortunate.
Oklahoma(-9.5) vs. Texas at Dallas: HIT! This game has been decided by one score in five straight years. This line was bogus to begin with. Texas always makes Oklahoma work for it, if they even manage to win. Baker Mayfield, for all he has done at Oklahoma, was just 2-2 against the Longhorns in his career.
Baylor at Oklahoma State(-25.5): MISS! This is what teams are supposed to do against Baylor this year. This also reaffirms that Oklahoma is not nearly as good as they looked in Columbus.
Virginia(-3.5) at North Carolina: HIT! This is likely the best defensive game that the Tarheels have played this year. Hey, they have to start somewhere!
Northwestern(-2.5) at Maryland: HIT! Northwestern is more tough than good, but in a conference that prides itself on tough, physical teams, that is a good thing. The Wildcats are on the weak side of the Big Ten(14). They could make some noise if someone manages to topple Wisconsin.
Vanderbilt at Mississippi(-3.5): MISS! Hey Vandy, where’s that vaunted defense? It sure didn’t make the trip to Oxford!
Akron at Western Michigan(-14.5): HIT! The postponement of this game really hurt the Broncos for whatever reason. They were unable to get anything going on the offensive end.
Miami(OH)(-9.5) at Kent State: HIT! As I expected, the Redhawks offense was stuck in neutral most of the day without Gus Ragland. Don’t give up on the season just yet, Redhawks fans! Miami started 0-6 last year and still made a bowl game!
Northern Illinois(-6.5) at Buffalo: MISS! I knew better. The Bulls are money at home.
Ohio(-10.5) at Bowling Green: HIT! The Ohio offense is becoming the class of the MAC this year. Either that, or Bowling Green’s defense is just that bad.
Toledo(-7.5) at Central Michigan: HIT! Toledo was clearly the better team here. Central Michigan is going to struggle for a while.
Navy at Memphis(-3.5): HIT! Navy didn’t win outright, but this was still a really good game. And a half went my way this time!
Houston(-13.5) at Tulsa: MISS! Wow! Where did that come from? That is a huge win for Tulsa, who still has aspirations of going to a bowl game.
Colorado(-10.5) at Oregon State: MISS! Ouch! What a poor game for the Ralphies. I guess it took the coach stepping down for Oregon State to play with a sense of urgency. That is unfortunate.
Charlotte at Western Kentucky(-16.5): MISS! I knew better. That’s what I get for taking Charlotte.
Wyoming at Utah State(-2.5): MISS! Maybe Craig Bohl is still auditioning for one of those Power Five jobs that a coming open after the season….
Georgia State at Louisiana-Monroe(-6.5): MISS! Cooper Manning torched the Warhawk defense for 446 yards through the air, while the defense held Monroe down for much of the game.
Appalachian State(-12.5) at Idaho: HIT! Idaho busts another spread at home in their FBS swan song. Their hopes of a second straight bowl game take a pretty big hit though.
New Mexico State(-6.5) at Georgia Southern: HIT! The Aggies get back on the right side of the spreads, for one week anyway.
Middle Tennessee State(-4.5) at UAB: MISS! Not only did UAB not get covered, but they won outright! The Blazers need just two more wins to make a bowl game, which is quite a feat after not having a football program for a couple of years!
UTSA(-2.5) at North Texas: HIT! Mason Fine should be a household name to anyone who watches Conference USA, and any Iowa fans. He will be to anyone that watches their bowl game as well.
East Carolina at Central Florida(-35.5): MISS! I think UCF let off the gas, and they still covered this…..
UTEP at Southern Mississippi(-22.5): MISS! I didn’t expect UTEP to get shut out, which would explain why I missed this.
Tulane(-13.5) at Florida International: MISS! Of course, when I switch gears, so does Tulane. The Wave still have not won a road game.
Texas A&M at Florida(-2.5): HIT! The Florida offense was still a huge mess. There are three lame duck coaches that I see right now, and two are in the SEC East.
Coastal Carolina at Arkansas State(-17.5): MISS! I outsmarted myself again. Looking back, I can’t belive that I picked CCU…..
Arkansas at Alabama(-31.5): HIT! The Tide keep rolling. In a week in which the top ten mostly struggled, the Tide battered Arkansas.
Missouri at Georgia(-29.5): HIT! Georgia is having first world problems in the college football universe. Like how to cover a 30 point spread without an elite defense.
Ohio State(-24.5) at Nebraska: MISS! There is no fight left in Nebraska. Just like the fanbase, Riley has lost the team as well. The good news for Riley? I hear Oregon State is hiring…..
Cincinnati at South Florida(-23.5): HIT! Willie Taggert built a pretty good team there, didn’t he? You’re welcome, Charlie Strong.
Utah at USC(-13.5): HIT! Utah put up a good fight and had every chance to win this game. Perhaps the biggest thing to take away from this was how well Sam Darnold rebounded after that horrid first quarter.
Michigan State(-4.5) at Minnesota: MISS! That vaunted Michigan State defense had all kinds of trouble with Demry Croft. The Gophers have a solid shot at a bowl after all.
UCLA(-2.5) at Arizona: HIT! This game shows the chasm between the UCLA defense and the rest of the league.
New Mexico at Fresno State(-1.5): MISS! This was complete domination by the Fresno defense. I never saw it coming.
Nevada at Colorado State(-24.5): MISS! This is a very different Nevada team from the one we saw in September. Colorado State was very fortunate to not lose this outright.
Boise State at San Diego State(-6.5): MISS! The Aztecs were flat from the opening kickoff. Boise’s defense landed them this big win.
Washington(-17.5) at Arizona State: MISS! This was a huge win for the Sun Devils, and a big blow to the playoff hopes of the Pac 12.
Oregon at Stanford(-10.5): HIT! There seemed to be a budding rivalry here for a while. It was very clear who was the best team here. This was an epic beatdown on the Ducks.
San Jose State at Hawaii(-17.5):MISS! It was only fitting to end this disaster of a week with a loss.
I had my only sub-.500 week since the opener, going 26-33 this week. That puts me at 196-170 on the season, which is still 53.6% of the total picks. It’s not my goal of 55%, but it isn’t that far off either. Hopefully the points did better.
This week’s totals follow the number. The season totals are in parentheses.
1. 5-5 (31-29) = 2
2. 8-13 (64-58) = 12
3. 5-10 (59-45) = 42
4. 7-2 (26-26) = 0
5. 1-3 (16-12) = 20
I lost points for the first time since week one as well. I lost 15 on the week to drop my season total to 76. That’s still a solid bankroll with conference play in full swing. I am now down to 36 betting points in two and a half seasons.
