Lots of online words have been written about the end of the Grit and Grind era in Memphis. And honestly the “This is the year the Grizzlies don’t make the playoffs” angle is one of the more popular annual predictions that keeps being wrong. But maybe this is the year! Or, despite jettisoning the backbones of the GNG era in Tony Allen and Zach Randolph, perhaps Memphis has a more versatile and deeper squad to flank Mike Conley and Marc Gasol.

So which take is more correct? The Grizzlies fan portion of Fastbreak Breakfast are actually split on the issue. So we went on the Take It or Break It! podcast to have a crossover episode and get to the bottom of it. With the help of #TIOBI host Corbin Smith (@corbinasmith) we preview Memphis while also exposing our complete lack of trivia knowledge of the franchise’s days in Vancouver.

Also covered:

  • Conley was called underrated for so long that he briefly became overrated. Is he actually underrated again?
  • Should the Grizzlies finally change their name now that Tony Allen is gone? Could Tony Allen’s team from now on just be called the Grizzlies?
  • The Memphis roster is filled with relative unknowns and cast-offs. Who is the most beguiling member of the team beyond Conley and Gasol?
  • Is Chandler Parsons getting a raw deal by fans? Should he be given a break?
