Atlanta won its 2017-18 opener on the road against the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday night, 117-111. This might be a trying year for the Hawks, but they did look good at times against the Mavericks. Atlanta will be led by point guard Dennis Schroder and a myriad of youngsters this season, including first-round pick in power forward John Collins.
Charlotte lost its 2017-18 opener on the road against the Detroit Lions on Wednesday night, 102-90. The Hornets are seen by many as a team that should be good enough to make the Eastern Conference playoffs this spring. Being that this game is in Charlotte, the Hornets should be a favored by a few possessions over the rival Hawks in this one. It may not be a bad idea to take the Hawks getting points in this one. Charlotte looked rough in its season debut up in Detroit. Maybe the Hornets play with more enthusiasm in front of the home crowd? They’ll need it against this surprisingly feisty Hawks. It will be interesting to see how these two Southeast Division rivals matchup, especially with Hornets center Dwight Howard squaring off with his former team.
