Pokemon GO has a lot in store the next couple days. Between a Halloween event and the Generation 3 Pokemon release, it’s the spookiest time to play.
Just like last year, Pokemon GO will be celebrating the spooky season with a Halloween event focused on the ghosts in the Pokemon world.
Ghost-type and other creepy looking Pokemon — like Ghastly, Gengar, Cubone and Misdreavus — will appear more frequently from Oct. 20 to Nov. 2. There will also be other perks to playing during this time, such as double candy rewards when transferring, hatching, catching and walking with Pokemon.
Super Incubators, incubators that hatch Pokemon faster than normal, will be available for purchase in special boxes from the game shop.
But the biggest draw to the event is Niantic’s roll out of Gen 3 Pokemon, otherwise known as the Pokemon we played with in Pokemon Ruby and Pokemon Sapphire. The Halloween event’s promotional video shows that players will be able to catch Sableye, Banette, Shuppet, Duskull and other Halloween-themed Gen 3 creatures.
As one could assume, this is just the start of the Gen 3 roll out. Niantic plans to release the remaining Pokemon from the series sometime in early December.

If creepy-looking Pokemon aren’t your cup of tea, Pokemon GO‘s Halloween event still has something for you. A special edition Pikachu in a cute witch’s hat will be available to catch during the event. In addition to being the perfect Halloween costume for Pikachu, the witch’s hat is supposed to be an allusion to Mimikyu, an off-kilter version of Pikachu introduced in Pokemon Sun and Pokemon Moon.
Pokemon GO‘s Halloween event is slated to start Friday at 12 p.m. EST. It will end Nov. 2 at 1 p.m. EST.
