Portland clobbered the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday night in their season opener, 124-76. The Trail Blazers look to be a serious contender for a playoff spot in the Western Conference this year. They do play in arguably the most competitive division in the NBA in the Northwest Division, one where all five teams could conceivably make the NBA playoffs.
Indiana won a high-scoring thriller at home over the Brooklyn Nets on Wednesday night, 140-131. The Pacers will have a new look team this year now that Paul George plays for the Oklahoma City Thunder. Indiana is not expected to make the Eastern Conference playoffs, but this is an organization that doesn’t like to bottom out historically.

The Trail Blazers are the better team, so they should be laying a few points on the road in Indianapolis. However, the Pacers are usually a very strong team at home. This will be the second straight road game for the Trail Blazers to start the season. That could be a factor in this game.

All that aside, Portland does have one of the best starting backcourts in the NBA in point guard Damian Lillard and shooting guard CJ McCollum. Indiana doesn’t exactly have the players in the backcourt to keep pace with Lillard, McCollum and the rest of the Blazers. This game could be closer than you think though.
