High Priced Quarterbacks

Drew Brees – New Orleans Saints ($7,600) – With Tom Brady and Matt Ryan meeting on Sunday night and Aaron Rodgers on the shelf, Drew Brees becomes the defacto number one quarterback. The New Orleans Saints signal caller travels to Green Bay to play the Packers. The Packers defense has fixed some issues that plagued it last season but they are not equipped to deal with this Saints offense. Now that running back Mark Ingram is the clear leader in the backfield, the Saints have become even more dangerous. Even with those factors, I’d avoid Brees this week. The Saints offense does not play as well at home as the road. Plus Green Bay may struggle and this game could get out of hand early. Brees is always a threat to shred defenses but I like the values available at quarterback this week.

Dak Prescott – Dallas Cowboys ($7,300) – The second-year quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys, Dak Prescott, comes in at second on the list. The Cowboys play the San Francisco 49ers this Sunday. Prescott is putting up an impressive sophomore campaign and this 49ers defense will be his easiest test of the season. Over the past four weeks the 49ers have given up the second most passing yards. They’re also allowing the sixth most fantasy points per game to opposing quarterbacks. Prescott and all Cowboys skill players, coming off a bye, will look to put up their best offensive game of the season.

Cam Newton – Carolina Panthers ($7,000) – Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton got off to a slow start this season but is looking to return to his 2015 MVP form. The Panthers have provided Newton the best compilation of threats he’s ever had. The team is finally figuring out how to utilize them all effectively. Newton has ten total touchdowns over the last four weeks. Even with his seven interceptions, he’s the second highest scoring quarterback over that span. Newton gets the Chicago Bears defense that’s surprisingly competent against opposing quarterbacks. Newton, like Prescott, will have a low floor this weekend due to their rushing ability.

Marcus Mariota – Tennessee Titans ($6,900) – Coming off a hamstring injury, Tennessee Titans’ quarterback Marcus Mariota did not miss a beat on Monday night’s win versus the Indianapolis Colts. The Titans signal called limited his rushing a bit but still showed the accuracy that has made him a low-turnover quarterback in his short career. This week the Titans get to play Cleveland Browns allowing the second most points to opposing quarterbacks per game. Given the Browns success at stopping the run, Mariota will need to carry the offense. Just like the two quarterbacks before him, Mariota offers a low floor with his rushing. This would be a safe play given the matchup and Mariota’s tendency to not throw interceptions.

Aaron Rodgers – Green Bay Packers ($6,800) – Not really sure what DraftKings is doing here. Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is likely done for the season with a broken clavicle. Do not put him in your lineup.
