Early in the season, there were two things we thought to be true. We thought that the USC Trojans were a title contender, and that the Notre Dame Fighting Irish might be fraudulent. Fast-forward to Saturday in Week 8, and both of those things may not be true. However, these are two teams with a storied rivalry and a lot of great talent that will face off in South Bend.
Sam Darnold and USC haven’t lived up to the hype fully. But don’t let that fool you about how good this team can actually be. He’s a high-end NFL Draft prospect for a reason, and he could well lead the way back to the CFP picture, along with running back Ronald Jones II.
Meanwhile, Brian Kelly’s Notre Dame team also has just one loss, speaking to their quality. They have a ton of talent on both sides of the ball, but their defense is scary good. They not only can push USC, but could be the overall better team in this matchup.
