After a summer of spending, AC Milan are off to a disappointing start to the Serie A season. Milan are 10th with 12 points. Genoa got to a terrible start, picking up only two points in their first seven games, before picking up their first win last week. The win moved Genoa above the relegation zone into 17th place.

Manager Vincenzo Montella is on the hot seat after Milan’s slow start. Montella’s seat has gotten even hotter after Bayern Munich and Carlo Ancelotti parted ways. Ancelotti served as AC Milan manager between 2001 and 2009, and fans are calling for his return. While Milan has scored 12 goals, it is their inability to prevent them that has seen them lose three games in a row. Milan has allowed 13 goals this season, including seven in their past three losses. Leonardo Bonucci was Milan’s prized signing in the summer but he has struggled to improve the club defensively. Montella started the season using a back four, but shift to a back three despite Milan winning two of their first three games with a back four.

Despite an awful start to the season, Genoa have one of the brightest future stars in the world. Last season, Pietro Pellegri became the youngest player to appear in a Serie A game at 15-years-old. The towering 6’5″ striker scored once last season and is Genoa’s leading scorer this season with two goals.
