Florida head coach Jim McElwain is receiving death threats from angry Gators fans.
At a press conference on Monday morning, Florida head coach Jim McElwain discussed an array of topics involving this upcoming weekend’s game against Georgia. However, he also revealed a shocking detail about his personal life. According to Brett McMurphy, to conclude his press conference, McElwain spoke about the death threats he and his family have received from fans stemming from the Gators’ 3-3 start.
While fans don’t know what to make of this Gators team following back-to-back home losses to LSU and Texas A&M, death threats are unacceptable and fans are taking the situation farther than it should ever go. The Gators have played rather well since the opening loss to Michigan. Had Florida scored a few more points or allowed a few less over the last two weeks, they’d be 5-1 and fans would be ecstatic. Therefore, a few plays shouldn’t make-or-break an opinion of a coach. Nor should they be a justification for heinous threats.
While death threats are not justified in any case, they certainly aren’t justifiable in McElwain’s case. During his tenure as head coach, McElwain has managed to win two SEC East titles and a grand total of 22 wins thus far. And even though a 3-3 record to start the season isn’t exactly Florida-esque, they still sit second in the SEC East. It’s time to relax.

McElwain is doing his best to field a competitive team every week. The Gators have been plagued with suspensions and injuries to this point. In addition, they escaped the hardest part of their schedule with a 3-3 record. Of course, Florida takes on Georgia on Saturday, but it’s likely smooth sailing after that. The Gators face Missouri, South Carolina, UAB and Florida State to close out the regular season.
